On July 22, AdvaMed submitted a letter to Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), Novitas and First Coast Service Options, regarding proposed local coverage determinations (LCDs) on Genetic Testing in Oncology. Upon review of these draft LCDs, AdvaMed identified a number of significant concerns that the current procedural requirements for LCDs were not properly followed. As a result, if finalized, these draft LCDs would result in a significant narrowing of coverage that is currently available to Medicare beneficiaries with cancer. AdvaMed recommended that the MACs not finalize these LCDs and instead work with stakeholders and the Carrier Advisory Committee to receive input prior to development of a new policy.
