AdvaMed Responds to CMS Request for Information on Health and Safety Requirements for Transplant Programs, Organ Procurement Organization, and End-Stage Renal Disease Facilities

first page of letter

On February 1, AdvaMed submitted a response to a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Request for Information (RFI) on potential changes to the requirements transplant programs, organ procurement organizations, and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) facilities must meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This RFI included questions regarding updates to the ESRD Conditions for Coverage (CfC), which have not been holistically updated in over 15 years and therefore fail to account for more recent innovations in ESRD care. AdvaMed’s response provided recommendations for updates to the CfCs, including developing distinct and separate regulation for home dialysis programs, increasing flexibility in patient education and training for home dialysis, and increasing opportunities for use of telehealth and remote monitoring technology for the ESRD population.
