AdvaMed Welcomes Administration’s Health Data Sharing Pledge

AdvaMed, the medtech association, released the following statement today from Shaye Mandle, executive director of the organization’s Digital Health Tech division, on the announcement from the White House, CMS, and HHS of a voluntary pledge by health care entities to make patient data more accessible and delivered faster between patients and providers.

“We applaud the White House, CMS, and HHS for recognizing the longstanding challenge of impediments to data access and taking action to lift those barriers. The era of personalized, precision medicine is upon us but reaching its full potential requires data that connects the dots across the continuum of care. The medtech industry is vital to the delivery of care and the improvement of patient outcomes, and we can do even more with additional tools. Access to critical information for research and development can be a challenge for medtech innovators to obtain. Greater access would promote the personalized, precise medtech design, utilization, and care patients deserve. Shared data is paramount for clinicians, innovators, and patients.

“Americans also deserve access to their comprehensive, individual health records as they take charge of their health with wearables and other health tech, a key tenet of the Make America Healthy Again initiative.

“Medtech and health tech innovators take patient data privacy seriously. AdvaMed supports a comprehensive approach to patient data privacy and has established principles around that approach. The interoperability of health systems and records while maintaining stringent patient privacy standards is a necessary goal to achieve next-generation medtech and health tech. AdvaMed looks forward to the results of today’s announcement in the weeks ahead.”
