38 House Democrats Join Call to Give Seniors Access to Life-Saving Medical Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A large group of Democratic lawmakers is requesting that the Biden administration enact a finalized federal rule that would give seniors on Medicare access to life-saving medical treatments. The Medicare Coverage of Innovative Technology (MCIT) rule would allow Medicare to cover “breakthrough” medical innovations as soon as they are approved as safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This rule would provide seniors living with chronic conditions treatment options that are not currently available and would otherwise be subject to a lengthy delay in Medicare coverage once approved. The MCIT rule is currently on hold, prompting 38 Democrats in Congress to call upon the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to finalize and approve the rule without further delay.
