AdvaMed Announces New Chair of State Medtech Alliance

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, AdvaMed, the Medtech Association, announced Kelvyn Cullimore, President and CEO of BioUtah, will serve as the next chair of the State Medtech Alliance (SMTA). The Alliance is a consortium of state and regional trade associations representing their local medical technology companies. Cullimore succeeds Dean Paranicas, who previously served as President and CEO of the  HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ).

“AdvaMed’s State Medtech Alliance works tirelessly to advocate on behalf of patients and support innovation in the medtech industry, and I welcome Kelvyn Cullimore as the new Chair,” said Scott Whitaker, AdvaMed President and CEO. “With decades of experience as a medtech CEO and a leader in Utah, I am confident he will carry on the great work of this group. I look forward to working with Kelvyn during his term to advance state policies that help our industry grow and thrive to better serve patients across the country.”

“It is an honor to be chosen to lead the State Medtech Alliance,” said Cullimore, President and CEO of BioUtah. “This group has been instrumental in advancing patient-first policies in state legislatures across the country. I look forward to continue working with my SMTA colleagues and the AdvaMed team to continue this critical work.”

Upon Paranicas’s retirement from the role, Whitaker said, “It is the dedicated work of health care leaders like Dean Paranicas that makes our SMTA effective and impactful. As the Chair of the group over the past five years, Dean has worked closely with the AdvaMed team and our state partners to ensure patients have access to the next generation of life-saving medical technology, and I am profoundly grateful for his leadership and involvement in the alliance. As president and CEO of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, Dean has been a vocal proponent of our medtech companies in the state and worked to develop an environment that enables the industry to thrive. It has been an honor to work with Dean and our SMTA, and I wish him well on his retirement.”

“It has been a privilege to have been part of SMTA since its inception, including my time as Chair, and I am incredibly proud of our accomplishments as an organization,” Paranicas said. “I want to thank the AdvaMed team for their dedication and hard work on difficult issues impacting the medtech industry across the country, and I want to welcome Kelvyn to the role of Chair. There is still much work to be done, but I am optimistic for our industry and for the patients we serve under Kelvyn’s leadership.”

Kelvyn Cullimore has served as President and CEO of BioUtah since 2018. Prior to that he served as CEO and Director of Dynatronics Corp., a publicly traded medical device manufacturer and on the board of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association.
