Speakers

Peter S. Briskman, Executive Managing Director, Brokerage, JLL

Current responsibilities

Pete Briskman is currently Executive Managing Director and Co-Lead for JLL’s Mid-Atlantic Life Sciences Practice. Previously, he led JLL’s Maryland region overseeing brokerage operations for both the Baltimore and Bethesda offices. His primary focus is working closely with the region’s most visible Life Sciences and Government Contracting organizations, assisting them with strategic real estate planning, lease/purchase structuring, negotiations, municipal incentives and overall transaction management for clients’ with leased and owned real estate portfolios.

Experience

Pete has over twenty years of experience leading complex real estate assignments nationally for headquarter transactions, custom build-to-suits, consolidations, expansions, and site selection of technical facilities to support his clients’ business needs.

He is a multiple recipient of GWCAR’s award for Commercial Leasing Broker of the Year and Leasing Transaction of the Year. He has also been recognized by the Maryland Daily Record’s Power 100 List 2021 and most recently, CREBA’s 2021 Maryland Broker of the Year. Pete was also recognized by Commercial Observer as one of the Mighty and Powerful of Washington, D.C., Commercial Real Estate, 2022 (Pete Briskman Commercial Observer link).

Education and affiliations

Pete graduated from McDaniel College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He is Chairman of the Board for BioHealth Innovation and sits on the Alumni Council for McDaniel College, Advisory Council for Junior Achievement and Regional Board for the Montgomery County Boys and Girls Club   Pete is from Montgomery County where he still resides with his wife and three children.

Robert Coughlin, Managing Director, JLL

Current Responsibilities

Mr. Coughlin is a Managing Director at JLL and is the New England’s Life Science Practice Group lead. He specializes in the representation of lab, GMP manufacturing and technology space. Robert delivers creative solutions that align real estate strategies with scientific business objectives.

Experience

Robert most recently operated as the President & CEO of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, where his mission was to advance Massachusetts’s leadership in the life sciences to grow the industry.

Robert has spent his career in both the public and private sectors. Before joining MassBio, he served as the Undersecretary of Economic Development within Governor Deval Patrick’s administration, where he prioritized both healthcare and economic development issues and was a strong advocate for the life sciences industry in Massachusetts. Prior to that, he was elected as State Representative to the 11thNorfolk district for three terms.

Robert has also held senior executive positions in the environmental services, capital management and venture capital industries.

Education, Affiliations and Recognitions

Robert is a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy where he majored in Marine Engineering and served as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve. In 2011, the American Diabetes Association honored Bob with their Father of the Year Award. In 2012, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation honored Bob with the CF Foundation Volunteer Leadership Award and in 2013 he received the Boston Irish Business Award from the Boston Irish Business Association. In 2014, he was awarded for his leadership in Biotechnology by the Massachusetts Society for Medical Research. He received the NTSAD advocate of the year in 2015 and was named to the Boston Business Journal’s Power 50, Top 50 Most Influential Bostonians. In 2016, he was honored with the Boston Biotech CEO Lifetime Achievement Award. His latest honors include the first-ever awarded Governor Paul Cellucci Fatherhood Award from the Children’s Trust and the Breath of Life Award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (2017).

Shannon Curley, Senior Managing Director, JLL

Current Responsibilities

Shannon Curley is a Managing Director in the Jones Lang LaSalle Consulting Group.  She is based in Washington DC. Ms. Curley is responsible for assisting companies with location strategy, portfolio strategy and occupancy optimization.

Experience

Ms. Curley has over 15 years of experience assisting corporations with the optimization of corporate operations to achieve revenue, margin and innovation objectives.  Representative clients include global corporations across all industry segments.

Ms. Curley specializes in direct investment strategy, global labor souring, location strategy, site selection, and portfolio and occupancy optimization. In addition, Ms. Curley has extensive global experience, and has assisted clients in the examination of over forty countries, across all regions of the world. Ms. Curley also has conducted in-field due diligence in Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

Education

Ms. Curley graduated from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and the George Washington University with a Master of Arts Degree in International Affairs.

Matt Jackson, Executive Managing Director, JLL

Current Responsibilities

Matt Jackson is an Executive Managing Director in the Jones Lang LaSalle Business Consulting Group.  He is based in Washington DC.  Mr. Jackson is responsible for assisting companies with global strategy, location footprint configuration, location/site selection, portfolio and occupancy strategy, and incentives negotiations.

Experience

Mr. Jackson has 26 years of experience assisting corporations with complex footprint configuration initiatives that achieve revenue, margin, integration and innovation objectives.  Mr. Jackson has conducted more than 500 related engagements for corporate clients and has negotiated incentive agreements valued at more than US$10 billion. 

Having dedicated a career to operating footprint challenges, Mr. Jackson brings a unique perspective to solving such issues.  He has worked on projects across all functional areas of an organization (R&D, headquarters, manufacturing, distribution, shared services, customer service, and technology, etc) and in geographies across the US and the globe including most of the world’s key investment markets such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, United Kingdom and the United States.

Mr. Jackson has been interviewed and written articles on global location footprint strategy, portfolio and occupancy related topics for Time International, Industry Week, LA Business Journal, USA today, Commercial Property News, Business Expansion Journal, CoreNet, Global Corporate Xpansion, Area Development, Supply Chain Management, Pharmaceutical Commerce and the Journal of Business Strategy.  He is also a frequent presenter at industry conferences such as CoreNet, and IAMC.

Mr. Jackson was born in New Zealand and was educated in the United States at Macalester College and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Joe Judge, Executive Managing Director, Tenant Representation, JLL

Current responsibilities

Joe Judge is an Executive Managing Director and Co-lead of JLL’s Mid-Atlantic Life Science Practice.

Over the past 20 years at JLL, Joe has specialized in advising local, national and global life science clients as their real estate advisor, including real estate portfolio strategic planning, the acquisition and disposition of buildings, along with the leasing of office, warehouse and retail space.  In 2020, Joe was awarded JLL’s most prestigious honor, the “Champions of Excellence”, which is granted to an employee that most embodies JLL’s core values of teamwork, ethics and excellence.

Recent Experience

  • Autolus: a multi-site state site selection across the East Coast to identify a mission-critical CAR T Cell Therapy facility for their U.S. Headquarters in Rockville, MD.
  • Lieber Institute for Brain Development: lease audit, tenant Advisory, and project management Services delivered through a lease renegotiation for the largest collection of postmortem human brains for the study of neuropsychiatric disorders in the world in Baltimore, MD.
  • Novavax: strategic real estate planning, municipal incentives, project management and tenant advisory services in support of “Operation Warp Speed” to deliver a COVID 19 Vaccine and Phase II therapeutics within the U.S. Canada and Czech Republic.
  • Social & Scientific Systems:  workplace strategy, municipal incentives, tenant advisory and project management services achieved within a headquarters renegotiation and satellite office relocation in Silver Spring, MD, Atlanta, GA and Raleigh, NC. 
  • TransEnterix: workplace strategy, tenant advisory and project management to identify a new mission-critical medical device facility in Raleigh, NC.
  • U.S. Government: Multiple headquarter and regional transactions in support of agencies including the National Institutes of Health, Food & Drug Administration, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and many other federal agencies in excess of 5 million square feet of transactions throughout the Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC area.

Education and affiliations

Joe holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in finance and real estate from the Carl H. Linder College of Business at the University of Cincinnati and proudly serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Cincinnati Foundation. He is very passionate and active in many civic and charitable organizations and serves on the board of Strathmore Music Hall and is the Vice Chairman of the board at A Wider Circle, where their mission is simple, “to end poverty”.  Joe and his wife Bridget are the proud parents of Christian (9) and Marella (7).
