AdvaMed® Comment Letter to OIG’s Annual Solicitation for Safe Harbors and Special Fraud Alerts

AdvaMed® Comment Letter to OIG’s Annual Solicitation for Safe Harbors and Special Fraud Alerts
In this AdvaMed® comment letter to the OIG, we urge the Office of Inspector General to update and expand safe harbors, especially those tied to value-based arrangements. We also recommend that physician-owned distributors be excluded from protection under all value-based safe harbors. OIG should continue its cautious approach toward these distributors.
In addition, we encourage OIG to keep investigating and stopping abusive pay-to-play schemes. We also suggest working with CMS and other stakeholders to support the creation of a nonprofit, nationwide credentialing platform for Health Care Industry Representatives.
AdvaMed® believes these steps would support OIG’s efforts to modernize the health care system. The goal is to shift from paying for volume to paying for value. These changes could reduce waste, lower costs, improve patient outcomes, expand access to medical technology, and support continued innovation.
