WASHINGTON, DC—AdvaMed, the medtech association, recently published a technical performance and safety white paper titled “Medical Imaging Device Cybersecurity: Critical Outage Situations and Response.” The white paper outlines common imaging device outage scenarios and manufacturers’ recommended steps for hospitals and radiology departments to consider in order to both mitigate the cyberattack’s impact and keep medical imaging systems functioning for physicians and patients.
By detailing different scenarios—from ransomware infection to device disconnection and hardware outage situations—this technical document highlights best-practice response plans to restore stability, verify integrity, and mitigate against device failures or compromised systems.
The white paper also underscores how deprecated imaging devices face a higher risk of unresolved infections and explains the need for a clear, well-defined response plan. Coordination with device manufacturers on steps such as isolation of the device, restoring backups, and implementing network segmentation is crucial. Such coordination provides the strongest support for an imaging device that remains operational in a critical outage situation.
