Lawrence “Larry” Friedman, Speaker
Partner, Barnes / Richardsen
Lawrence “Larry” Friedman is a Partner at Barnes/Richardson, focusing on litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade and resolving disputes with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). His expertise spans tariff classification, customs valuation, origin marking, and enforcement actions. Larry also helps protect U.S. trademark and copyright holders against infringing imports. A recognized authority on free trade agreements (FTAs), he advises clients on FTA compliance systems and verification processes. He served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of International Trade and is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. Larry is a past president of the Customs and International Trade Bar Association and former ABA Customs Law Committee Co-Chair. He authors the Customs Law Blog, co-authored the textbook Customs Law, and leads the Illinois-Chicago Chapter of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms. He has been recognized by Chambers USA and Who’s Who Legal since 2013.

Amy Porges, Moderator
Founder, Porges Trade Law PLLC
Amy Porges is an internationally recognized trade and customs lawyer with decades of experience in global trade policy, dispute resolution, and litigation. She has led her own practice since 2009, following senior roles at Sidley Austin and Powell Goldstein. Previously, she served as Senior Counsel at the U.S. Trade Representative, managing over 100 WTO and NAFTA cases. She was also a Senior Legal Officer at the GATT Secretariat during the Uruguay Round. Amy has advised on major trade negotiations with Japan, the EU, and others, and contributed to key agreements like the WTO’s ITA. She holds degrees from Harvard Law School, the Kennedy School, and Cornell, and has been honored by Who’s Who Legal, Best Lawyers in America, and Lexology. Fluent in French and proficient in Japanese and Spanish, she remains active in legal associations, advisory boards, and international trade initiatives.
