AdvaMed applauds Bush health initiatives

AdvaMed issued a statement January 24 responding to President Bush’s State of the Union address. In the response, Association President and CEO Stephen J. Ubl said that “the President deserves a big ‘thumbs up’ for his focus on health care reform. Ubl also noted that AdvaMed is committed help find ways to solve the problems of the uninsured, “so all Americans can have access to the life saving and life-enhancing technologies our companies create.”

Hill Staff Learn about Remote Monitoring

AdvaMed helped organize a recent briefing for congressional staff to educate them about the latest developments in remote monitoring technologies. The November 20 session included a series of presenters, including Joseph M. Smith, M.D., Ph.D., FACC, senior vice president and Chief Medical Officer at Boston Scientific Inc.’s Cardiac Rhythm Management. Presenters from medical technology companies and health services firms discussed the importance of the technology to improving the quality, cost, and efficiency of care for patients suffering from chronic health conditions including congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and diabetes.

AdvaMed: Reauthorize R&D Tax Credit

On November 14, AdvaMed President Stephen J. Ubl is urging Congress to reauthorize the research & development (R&D) tax credit before its adjournment. The tax credit expired Dec. 31, 2005, which has caused disruptions for companies involved in planning long-term medical R&D projects.

Testimony given about reprocessed devices

In testimony at a September 26 hearing of the House Government Reform Committee, AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen J. Ubl outlined the potential dangers of reprocessing single-use medical devices.

AdvaMed Comments on Outpatient and Physician Rules

AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen J. Ubl issued a statement on the Association's preliminary review of CMS' proposed rules for ambulatory surgery center reimbursement, the Outpatient Prospective Payment System, and the Physician Fee Schedule. The proposed changes to the ASC reimbursement system will expand patient choice by allowing physicians to perform more procedures in ASCs which were previously limited to hospital outpatient departments or physician offices. AdvaMed Commends Improved Hospital Inpatient Rule

AdvaMed President Stephen J. Ubl issued a statement Aug. 1, 2006 commending the Administration and CMS for improvements to Medicare's hospital inpatient prospective payment rule and identified three key areas of improvement.

Hill Expo Showcases Preparedness Products

AdvaMed hosted a medical technology defense and preparedness exposition May 9, 2006 at the Russell Senate Office building. The event gave participating member companies an opportunity to display their defense and preparedness products that are currently used by U.S. armed forces in Iraq and at home. Other technologies focused on prevention for pandemics, epidemics or bioterrorist attacks.
