Wall Street Journal Editorial Board: Repeal “The Zombie Medical Device Tax”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In today’s Wall Street Journal, the editorial board wrote that Congress “should stop a return of the destructive” medical device excise tax scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1.

The editorial states that “Companies pay the tax on sales rather than income, so small firms with thinner margins face larger tax burdens. Some 80% of manufacturers have fewer than 50 employees, and most must eat the tax.”

The editorial board also pointed to the recent Tax Foundation study that “projected the tax would result in 21,390 job losses,” ending with a call for Congress to “end the industry’s perennial uncertainty and kill the tax permanently.”
