AdvaMed Welcomes China President Xi Jinping To U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), issued the following statement on China President Xi Jinping’s historic state visit to Washington, D.C.:

“AdvaMed welcomes President Xi Jinping’s first state visit to Washington, D.C. AdvaMed member companies produce the kinds of life-changing innovations that are helping more and more patients in China and around the world live longer, healthier and more productive lives. Many of our members have also made substantial investments in China, and established R&D and manufacturing facilities that contribute to China’s growth. Therefore, we support strong bilateral relations between our two nations, to help ensure policies that provide a level playing field for medtech manufacturers in this important market.

“Key policy issues in China include the need to ensure appropriate trade, regulatory and reimbursement policies for life-saving and life-enhancing medical devices and diagnostics, and to harmonize ethical business practices in the country. Our efforts in China will help ensure patient access to advanced medical technologies and will benefit both local Chinese companies and importers.

“Ten months ago, AdvaMed officially opened our representative office in Shanghai – a city where many of our member companies have their China headquarters – to substantially enhance the association’s ability to partner with Chinese authorities and other stakeholders in one of the world’s fastest growing markets for medical technology. We look forward to continuing to work with the Chinese government and other stakeholders to help make patients’ lives better through medical technology.”
