AdvaMed: Today’s Jobs Report a Reminder that Bad Policy Kills Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) released the following statement from President and CEO of AdvaMed Scott Whitaker on today’s November jobs report by the U.S. Dept. of Labor:

“Today’s report that our economy added 266,000 jobs in November is great news for American workers. But it’s also an important reminder that bad policies can threaten this remarkable economic growth. If Congress fails to act in the next two weeks, the medical device industry will be hit with a $20 billion dollar tax increase, which leading tax experts have predicted will lead to the loss of more than 21,000 American jobs. Bipartisan majorities in both the House and Senate support repeal – there’s no good reason to allow this job- and medical innovation-killing tax to return on New Year’s Day.
