AdvaMed Names Matthew E. Wetzel VP and Assistant General Counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) today announced that Matthew E. Wetzel has joined the association as vice president and assistant general counsel.

“We’re delighted to welcome Matt to AdvaMed,” said Chris White, AdvaMed senior executive vice president and general counsel. “AdvaMed’s legal department works to ensure a predictable legal environment that values innovative health care solutions and ensures patient access to the latest advancements in medical technology. Matt’s deep medtech industry, legal and health care experience will help the association continue to advance its advocacy goals and further AdvaMed’s compliance leadership.”

Prior to joining AdvaMed, Mr. Wetzel served as senior counsel, global compliance and ethics at Boston Scientific. While there, he played an integral role in overseeing several critical elements of the company’s global compliance program and advised on a variety of legal issues, including U.S. health care fraud and abuse concerns, anti-bribery/anti-corruption issues, and physician-industry transparency initiatives, while also serving as part of AdvaMed member working groups on those topics.

Previously, Mr. Wetzel was as an associate at the law firms of Reed Smith LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP, both in Washington, D.C. In addition to Mr. Wetzel’s work with AdvaMed, he is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association Diversity & Inclusion Council and a 2015 Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity. He received his J.D., cum laude, and his A.B., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University.
