AdvaMed Congratulates Medtronic’s Tom Schumacher on Receiving 2017 PwC MedTech Ethical Leadership Award

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Thomas J. Schumacher, vice president, global chief ethics and compliance officer at Medtronic, was honored with the 2017 PwC Award for Leadership in the Advancement of Ethics in the Medical Device Industry. 

Presented at the 10th annual Global MedTech Compliance Conference in Amsterdam May 2-4, the award is sponsored by PwC and given annually to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the advancement of ethics and ethical behavior in the medical device and diagnostics industry.

“Tom’s leadership and excellence in advancing business ethics and compliance in the medtech space exemplify all the qualities that this award represents, and I congratulate him for this well-deserved honor,” said Christopher L. White, chief operating officer and general counsel at AdvaMed (the Advanced Medical Technology Association), under whose auspices the annual PwC Award is given.

“Tom has worked with stakeholders across the industry and around the globe to advance ethical business practices and compliance. This includes his efforts to assist third-party distributors and medtech industry conference development, as well as regional code-of-ethics development,” White said.

“From China, to Latin America, to Europe and beyond, Tom has inspired and helped lead ethics and compliance policies and programs beneficial to patients everywhere,” said White.

“Tom’s highly effective leadership and advocacy on the issue of ethical compliance within the international medtech community is an inspiration to all in the industry,” said Patricia Etzold, forensics partner, PwC. “In keeping with PwC’s own commitment to the highest standards of compliance and transparency, it is our great pleasure to continue to recognize compliance professionals such as Tom for their valuable contributions.”
