AdvaMed Congratulates Assistant USTR Barbara Weisel for Being Named WIIT's "Outstanding Woman of the Year"

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ralph Ives, executive vice president, global strategy and analysis, at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), released the following statement in response to Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Barbara Weisel being named “Outstanding Woman of the Year” by the Association of Women In International Trade (WIIT).

“AdvaMed congratulates Barbara Weisel, assistant U.S. trade representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, on this well-deserved honor. The WIIT Outstanding Woman of the Year award recognizes women who have made an outstanding contribution to international trade, enhancing the status of women in the field.

“As chief U.S. negotiator for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, Ms. Weisel has championed efforts supported by AdvaMed to enhance trade and investment among the economies of the Asia-Pacific region while promoting innovation, economic growth and job creation and retention.

“As AdvaMed continues to expand its focus on emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, we applaud Ms. Weisel’s leadership in developing and implementing U.S. trade policy that helps ensure patient access to innovative, life-saving and life-enhancing treatments and cures.

“The benefits of medical technology and innovation to patient care, health care systems and economies transcend international boundaries. By improving regulatory systems and ethical business practices, and eliminating other trade barriers through the TPP agreement and other policies, we tear down barriers to our competitiveness around the world and help more and more people live longer, healthier and more productive lives through medical technology.”
