AdvaMed Commends Nomination of Mike Froman as U.S. Trade Representative

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), released the following statement in support of Michael Froman as the next United States Trade Representative:

“We congratulate Mike Froman, currently deputy national security advisor for international affairs, on his recent nomination to be U.S. Trade Representative and wish him a speedy Senate confirmation. We support the administration’s efforts to foster export growth and a level playing field for U.S.-based manufacturing.

“The American medical technology industry is a net exporter, with a significant trade surplus to the rest of the world. We are confident that Mike Froman will continue to support efforts to reduce or eliminate trade barriers and ensure full access to safe, effective and high quality medical devices and diagnostics around the world – through efforts like the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and in the World Trade Organization.

“These efforts, and others, will help meet 21st-century challenges facing U.S. businesses, support the creation and retention of high-quality American jobs and improve the quality of life for more patients around the world.”

Confirmation hearings for the U.S. Trade Representative are slated for June 6 in the Senate Finance Committee.
