AdvaMed Commends CMS Changes to MedTech Coding Processes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Scott Whitaker, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), issued the following statement on CMS’s announcement today on procedural changes to improve patients’ access to emerging technologies:
"We commend CMS's announcement today that it will modify its coding processes to promote more rapid adoption of innovative medical technologies. AdvaMed has long championed the changes proposed to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) processes, as we believe they will enhance the efficiency, transparency, and predictability of the coverage process, and ultimately ensure improved patient access to new medical advancements.
"Together with the recent proposed rule calling for additional funding for breakthrough technologies, as well as last year’s guidance on changes to the Local Coverage Determination (LCD) process, today's announcement further demonstrates CMS Administrator Verma's commitment to providing the best care to Medicare beneficiaries. We look forward to continuing to work with her and her team on additional ways to facilitate greater efficiencies in the coverage and payment process."
