AdvaMed Applauds House for Passing Opioid Package that Recognizes Role of Medical Technology in the Fight Against Opioid Addiction
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) issued the following statement from Executive Vice President of Public Affairs, Greg Crist, as the House passed its legislation to address the opioid crisis:
“AdvaMed applauds today’s passage of legislation by the House of Representatives which recognizes that innovative, non-opioid medical technology solutions will serve as vital tools in the fight against opioid addiction. This legislation will ensure patients have greater access to the broad array of devices available by encouraging education and awareness among providers and beneficiaries, and creating clear approval pathways for new devices so that they reach patients faster and more efficiently.
While we applaud this legislation, we remain concerned with a specific provision which expands Sunshine law to include medical device company interactions with physician assistants and nurse practitioners in order to curb opioid prescribing. We support transparency and we support the Sunshine law, but in this case, we do not believe this provision will provide the public with helpful information and therefore will force an unnecessary compliance burden on companies.”
