Ambulatory Surgery Centers

In recent decades, the nation’s health care system has evolved to include establishment of Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs), facilities where surgeries that may not require hospital admission are performed. ASCs may perform surgeries in a variety of medical specialties or dedicate their services to one specialty. The Medicare program began reimbursing ASC procedures in 1982.

AdvaMed is concerned that new technologies are made available to ASC patients and are adequately reimbursed.
