AdvaMed Applauds Additional FDA Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of AdvaMed, issued the following statement following action in the House on the FY 2008 supplemental appropriations bill, which includes $150 million in additional funds for the Food and Drug Administration:

“AdvaMed commends Congress and the White House for reaching agreement to provide FDA with additional funds which will help the agency continue its crucial mission of protecting and promoting the public health. FDA has the vital responsibility to ensure the safety and effectiveness of America’s medical technology products, and these additional resources will help it continue to meet its public health mandate.

“With these additional funds, FDA will be able to hire additional scientists and inspectors, expand its scientific training and strengthen its science programs to allow them to continue to effectively regulate new and complex products.

“We would like to thank House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), Appropriations Committee Chair David Obey (D-WI) and Ranking Member Jerry Lewis (R-CA) for their leadership in working with the Administration to secure these additional funds for FDA.”
