ADVAMED WELCOMES ELIMINATION OF REDUNDANT REGULATIONS IN CHINA
|
WASHINGTON, D.C. – AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen J. Ubl issued the following statement after the Chinese Government agreed to take action to eliminate duplicative testing and certification requirements applicable to imported medical technology during the 17th annual senior-level meeting of the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT), which concluded yesterday in Washington, DC:
“We applaud the Chinese Government for taking this important step, which will streamline the medical technology registration process by eliminating redundant testing and inspection requirements. These requirements have added needless time and expense to the process, while doing nothing to enhance safety and effectiveness.
China is an important – and growing – market for our members, with U.S. medical technology exports to China totaling $698 million last year, an increase of 21 percent over 2004. We thank U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, U.S. Trade Ambassador Rob Portman, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns and Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi for their persistence and dedication during these negotiations which will result in Chinese patients having more timely access to the most advanced medical technologies.”
