Volunteerism Reaches New Levels as MEDRAD Suspends Operations for a "Day of Caring" in its Communities
On most days, MEDRAD, INC., produces medical devices and services that enable and enhance imaging procedures. But on Sept. 26, 2006, it suspended work and its employees served as volunteers throughout metropolitan Pittsburgh, PA.
Employees in other locations did likewise for the annual MEDRAD Day of Caring. The company estimated that the event was equivalent to 5,200 total employee hours and an estimated $150,000 in payroll costs.
Pittsburgh employees spent that day at 35 local social service agencies, including the local chapter of Easter Seals Disability Services, as well as a nursing home and a daycare center. Associates in The Netherlands volunteered at a nursing home, animal shelter, children's hospital and school, while and employees in Kobe, Japan participated in a walkathon for programs to support working women.
The Day of Caring is organized annually by MEDRAD's Points of Light Committee, a group of employee volunteers that undertakes the massive job of coordinating hundreds of people at various worksites. The same team keeps the spirit of giving alive and well throughout the year, organizing dozens of other opportunities for MEDRAD employees to give their time and money to worthy causes.
